GBCI At Bristol Open – What A Result.
February 28, 2009
Hi all
Just a quick update and I don’t have the full details yet, but what I do have is very good news indeed.
Matt Delauney wins Gold as a white belt.
Leigh Le Blancq wins bronze as a white belt.
Russell Allchin wins bronze as a blue belt.
Matt Norris wins silver in his first competition as a purple belt.
So, there we have it, 4 lads from a small but very good club produce some fantastic results.
Once the lads are back, we will get a more detailed post up for you.
So, well done to all the boys from GBCI who took part and did so well in the Bristol open.
Leave your name and email in the boxes provided at the top of the page if you want to be informed as to when the updated report is posted.
Cheers
Russell & Matt Make It In The Paper
February 24, 2009
Russell Allchin and Matt Norris were in the sports pages of the Jersey Evening Post recently regarding their recent participation in the European Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships that were held in Lisbon, Portugal.
It is great to see that both Matt & Russell got some newspaper exposure as it was a very successful event that they took part and performed well in.
One note to mention though is that Matt received his purple belt AFTER the competition and fought as a blue belt. I mention this as the write up made it sound as though he fought as a purple belt.
Here is a link to the write up.

GBCI Boys Fighting In Bristol Open
February 24, 2009
Hi all.
A quick update with regards to The Bristol Open taking place on Saturday 28th February and Sunday 1st March.
We have four fighters going over to fight with two of those having recently fought in the Europeans in Lisbon, Portugal.
Matt Norris, who managed to get a Silver in the Blue Belt Absolutes in Portugal will be fighting for the first time as a purple belt. This is going to be a big step up for Matt but having done so well as a blue belt, we think this is something he is going to relish.
Russell Allchin who reached the quarter finals in Lisbon will be fighting again and is looking forward to another successful competition.
We also have two white belts entering the competition.
Matt Delauney will be taking part in his first BJJ competition although he has taken part in other competitions outside of BJJ.
Last but not least fighting from GBCI is Leigh Le Blancq. This will be Leigh’s first BJJ competition.
We will keep you posted with the results so please visit back later or leave your name in the boxes provided at the top of the page where we can email you as soon as the results are in.
For anyone interested, here is a link to a very detailed set of rules for this weekends event.
Everyone at the club wishes all fighters the very best of luck in the event and hope they come away knowing they have fought well and have added more valuable experience to their BJJ arsenal.
Braulio Estima dates confirmed
February 9, 2009
Dates for Braulio Estima seminars have been confirmed.
Mark your diaries for Friday 6th March, Saturday 7th March and Sunday 8th March.
As of yet, times and schedule are not finalised but will probably run in a similar fashion to past visits with Friday evening being No Gi/Gi class, Saturday being private lessons in the morning with a class in the afternoon and Sunday being a late morning/early afternoon training session.
For those of you who may be unaware, Braulio is still on top of his game and proved this once again recently by wiping the board at the European Championships in Lisbon by getting gold in both his weight category and the absolutes for Black Belts.
It will be very hard to find a better fighter and instructor anywhere in the world at the moment and I strongly urge you to make sure you can make it to at least one of the sessions.
Those dates again, Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th March. Schedules will be posted later.
Till next time, see you on the mat.
European Championships 2009 Update
February 2, 2009
Hi all
Just a quick update of the events that just took place at The European Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships in Lisbon.
Matt & Russell both fought in the absolutes categories on Saturday with Russell reaching the quarter finals and Matt getting Silver.
I am still unsure of how the event went on Sunday but I hope to write a more detailed report of the events once Russell & Matt are back in Jersey.
To add further icing to Matts cake, Braulio Estima awarded Matt with his purple belt.
Congratulations go out to both Russell & Matt.
Check back later for an update.
