GBCI Boys Fighting In Bristol Open
February 24, 2009
Hi all.
A quick update with regards to The Bristol Open taking place on Saturday 28th February and Sunday 1st March.
We have four fighters going over to fight with two of those having recently fought in the Europeans in Lisbon, Portugal.
Matt Norris, who managed to get a Silver in the Blue Belt Absolutes in Portugal will be fighting for the first time as a purple belt. This is going to be a big step up for Matt but having done so well as a blue belt, we think this is something he is going to relish.
Russell Allchin who reached the quarter finals in Lisbon will be fighting again and is looking forward to another successful competition.
We also have two white belts entering the competition.
Matt Delauney will be taking part in his first BJJ competition although he has taken part in other competitions outside of BJJ.
Last but not least fighting from GBCI is Leigh Le Blancq. This will be Leigh’s first BJJ competition.
We will keep you posted with the results so please visit back later or leave your name in the boxes provided at the top of the page where we can email you as soon as the results are in.
For anyone interested, here is a link to a very detailed set of rules for this weekends event.
Everyone at the club wishes all fighters the very best of luck in the event and hope they come away knowing they have fought well and have added more valuable experience to their BJJ arsenal.

Hi all
Just a quick update of the events that just took place at The European Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships in Lisbon.
Matt & Russell both fought in the absolutes categories on Saturday with Russell reaching the quarter finals and Matt getting Silver.
I am still unsure of how the event went on Sunday but I hope to write a more detailed report of the events once Russell & Matt are back in Jersey.
To add further icing to Matts cake, Braulio Estima awarded Matt with his purple belt.
Congratulations go out to both Russell & Matt.
Check back later for an update.

European BJJ Championships 2009
January 21, 2009
The 2009 European Brazilian Jiu Jitsu championships will be taking place on January 30 through to Februay 1.
The event will be held at “Complexo Municipal Esportivo do Casal Vistoso”, Rua João silva, Lisboa, Portugal.
This event has fighters from all over the world taking part and is a real testing ground for BJJ.
We have two fighters from the academy taking part in The European BJJ Championships 2009 and both have been training extremely hard and are looking forward to the competition.

Matt
The first student from the accademy is Matt Norris, a blue belt and he will be fighting in the Master Heavyweight Blue Belt division and the Masters Absolute Blue Belt division. I spoke to Matt about this upcoming competition and he says that he is really looking forward to it.
Russell
The second fighter from the accadmy taking part is Russell Allchin who will be fighting in the Senior Heavyweight Blue Belt division and the Senior Absolute Blue Belt division. Again, Like Matt, Russell is looling forward to the competition and has also put in a lot of work preparing for the event.
I am hoping to find a little bit of time to talk to both Matt & Russell prior to them heading off to Lisbon so we can get a short interview so we can find out what it’s like to train for an event like this and if there’s a specific game plan etc.
I saw Matt & Russell training last week and both are looking on top form. You need to be extremely dedicated and put in a lot of time if you expect to do well in an event as big as this and if dedication was the only thing needed, both fighters will come back very happy.
Everybody at the club wishes both of them the very best of luck and hope to see them return with some great results.

Possibly the fight that should of taken place all those years ago rather than the contest Yoshida had with Royce. This time the Olympiad Yoshida faces arguably the worlds number one grappler in the event titled Sengoku at the Yoyogi First National Gymnasium.
